The 2010 Jeeps Huge 6.1L V8
Jeep has been a major player in the SUV market for many years. The Grand Cherokee line has been out since the late eighties, and has seen some serious changes since then. It has grown to become a luxury car instead of a strictly off road vehicle. In 2010, Jeep offers two significantly different engine options for its Grand Cherokee line.
The first engine is available inside of the Limited and Laredo versions. It is a 3.7L V6, and is rated at 210 horsepower, and 235 ft lb of torque. This particular engine has received an EPA rating of 15 miles per gallon for city driving, and 20 miles per gallon for highway driving. This is one of the smallest engines ever put into a Cherokee model. However, it is a viable alternative to the older 4.0L inline six models. This engine is made entirely out of aluminum in order to help achieve a better fuel economy rating. Although this engine will by no means rocket you down the road, it has enough power to get you where you need to go.
The next engine in the line is available inside of the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 model. It is a huge 6.1L V8. This engine is rated at 420 horsepower and 420 ft lb of torque. This engine represents the ultimate in Jeep performance. This engine gets a wasteful 11 miles per gallon inside of the city, and a measly 14 miles per gallon while driving on the highway. This engine option is defiantly not for someone who wants good fuel economy. It is for the driver that must have the ultimate in 4×4 performance. It is mated to a six speed transmission, and has an optional manual mode for those times when the driver really wants to scream down the road.
